The Sweetness of Forgetting is a story about love, family and finding yourself. We have two stories, Hopes and her grandmother’s. Hope is busy raising a kid who is acting up, managing a bakery and trying to cope with a divorce, the lost of her mother and her Mamie’s Alzheimer. When her grandma asks her to go to Paris to look for long lost relatives, Hope will discover a whole new story she never imagined.
This book was beautiful, powerful and heartfelt. It was a gripping story that breaks your heart but also mends it. I enjoyed both stories and even when I didn’t like how the daughter acted at first, I end liking all the characters. It made me weep for sadness but also for hope.
I found the historic side very interesting. I have heard of what happened in the Vel d’Hiv but I did not know much about and learning a little bit more was great.
Kristin Harmel was captivated my heart once again and I would consider this book as one of my favorite Historical Fiction books ever.
